We believe beer drinkers are looking for good taste and diversity of flavor. Because beer is brewed worldwide in a variety of styles by numerous methods based on the local climate, ingredients, and culture, the number of styles is incredibly diverse.
German immigrants brought their interpretation of bier in its many styles to America in the 19th century. In time, the overwhelming popularity of the pale lagers they introduced became the dominant style in the U.S. until craft brewers reintroduced forgotten styles of English and Belgian ales in the 1980s. Unfortunately, German bier, particularly lagers, never experienced the same craft revival, perhaps because brewers associated them too closely to the mild, ubiquitous, domestic lagers that descended from German ancestry.
It was our belief when we opened in 2014 that Kansas Citians would embrace the added diversity of German-style bier if they could experience authentic flavor along with local freshness. Kansas City is the home of many unique breweries, and we are proud to contribute our interpretation of bier to the ever-expanding craft bier culture in our hometown. Prost!
We appreciate all styles of beer, but we are in love with fresh German ales and lagers. Our mission is to brew authentic tasting German-style bier and deliver it with the same character, flavor, and freshness as bier brewed and consumed in Germany.
There is a saying in Bavaria, “Bier tastes best when consumed in sight of the brewery’s smokestack.” That’s because travel time and warm temperatures in unrefrigerated shipping containers reduce the freshness of imported bier. Besides being local, our bier is also unpasteurized, unfiltered, and naturally carbonated to protect freshness.
