Hodge Park

The game of golf can be a learning experience and there’s no place better to learn the game of golf than Hodge Park. Tim Underwood, PGA, is the Site General Manager and has been at Hodge for more than 12 years, most of it spent teaching the game he loves. “Mainly, I just enjoy improving people’s golf game,” he said. “I like to see people enjoy golf more by playing better golf.”

Prairie Highlands

Regularly recognized over the years as one of Kansas’ best, Prairie Highlands is hoping to return to its place among top-tier courses. To accomplish that, General Manager Shawn McGuire was recently brought over from Hillcrest to help spruce up a course which consistently ranks among the top five Kansas courses. “Our main focus has been getting Prairie Highlands back to the prominence of when it opened,” he said. “I remember when I first came to Kansas City, this was one of the places to play. It was a brand-new golf course; it was in pristine condition.” Restoring some of the brand new feel is one of McGuire’s.

Liberty Hills

Golfers who give Liberty Hills a try will be pleasantly surprised. In over two years of new management by GreatLife, the 6,530-yard, par 70 course located a few miles east of Liberty, in a pastoral setting off Highway 69, has undergone important renovation. And membership is growing. “It’s definitely increased from last year,” said manager Carmen Titus. “We had a lot of Excelsior Springs members come down. It’s great. We’re growing every minute.” The affordable membership plans begin at $49.99/month and the family membership is just $69.99/month. “That will get you unlimited golf,” she said. “You can go to most any of the other GreatLife golf courses.

Hillcrest

One hundred years have passed since Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, designed by famed architect Donald Ross, opened in southeast Kansas City. A century later, not much has changed as Hillcrest continues to provide golfers a classic, rolling layout surrounded by woods and without a house in sight. Ross, a Scot born in 1872, has designed some of the most fabled golf courses in America, including Pinehurst No. 2, Congressional, Oak Hill, Inverness and Oakland. Hills – every one of them a host to major tournaments. It is no wonder Hillcrest embraces Ross as much as possible in promoting the course. “It definitely has become advantageous for us

Sunflower Hills

When Kansas City-area golfers talk about a good place to play, Sunflower Hills is always in the discussion, and for a number of reasons. The friendly staff boasts more experience than any other course in the city and as a municipally-owned course, it has maintained a clientele-friendly pricing system. Most importantly though, the course offers plenty of challenges for a wide variety of golfers. “Most of the skilled golfers in town that play a lot of golf, they realize what a good test of golf Sunflower is,” said Head Golf Professional Jeff Johnson.
